Upcoming Spring 2013 Trends

I am SO excited about all of the new trends of 2013. I held off on getting too many clothes for Christmas because I wanted to wait until the new popular styles were set in to place. Here are a few that I love most so far- most spotted on the red carpet at the Golden Globes.

1. Light leather. As I mentioned earlier, I love that leather has become a recent trend. I bought a leather-like top that is made of really light material from H&M before I even heard about its upcoming popularity (very proud of myself- always thinking ahead!)

2. Boudoir. This means lacy, sheer fabric. Let it show a hint of skin! I love this shirt because it shows off her arms, and also rocks the black and white trend!

3. Extreme structure. Look for origami-inspired, sharp lines, and A-symetirc styles.

Amy Adams looks stunning in her "architecture" inspired Dior dress. It's a great way to spice up a LBD.

Ciara worked this Givenchy dress at the Golden Globes, inspiring fashion gurus to catch on to this trend.

4. Ruffles. Go big or go home.
Jessica Biel clad in ruffles all over

5. Cool tones versus hot shades. For the cool tones, stick to emeralds, bright blues. These colors were seen a lot on the Spring 2013 runways of alice + olivia and Michael Kors. And as for the hot tones, go for tangerine, fuchsia, and hot red.

6. Gladiator boots. I recently flipped through the pages of this month's Harper's Bazaar and spotted J Lo in knee-high gladiator boots. Versace and Tom Ford worked this look into their Spring 2013 line.

As seen on the red carpet on Anne Hathaway. (These are a little too scandalous for me!)

7. "Rib drift." Show off some skin this season! But follow along with Jason Woo's love of exposing skin in the rib-area. High waisted skirts and pants paired with cut off tops is a perfect combination for this trend.
Kristen Wigg shows off some skin at the Golden Globes.

8. Black and white. Surprised? Not really. This trend has boomed since the beginning of the winter season. So why is it so great? Well, everyone can wear these colors- no matter what your skin complexion is, I guarantee you will look great in black and white (as long as you find the right piece for you!) It's interchangeable- you can easily mix and match, and it's highly likely that you have black and white pieces in your closet somewhere! This trend was seen all over Louis Vuitton's, Calvin Klein's, and Oscar de la Renta's runways.

Shearling

Within the past month or so, I noticed a few girls in my hometown sporting shearling jackets. My mom has one that she used to wear, and I was never a big fan. But once I saw girls my age wearing them, I changed my mind. I bought one the other day from BB Dakota on Shopbop on sale! I haven't worn it yet, but I am so excited to when school starts up!

Be Back Soon

I just got back to Dallas for Rush Week. I'll be at my sorority house for around 12 hours a day for the next week and a half, so I will post if I get a chance/if I'm not too exhausted to even open my computer! Feel free to check out my Pinterest if you'd like to check out more of my inspirations, and things I love!

While I'm gone, I thought I would leave with you with one of my favorite quotes that is perfectly applicable to the New Year and new, exciting things to come!

Pocket Friendly Finds

My mom is incredibly good at finding the best deals, even if it means venturing to TJ Maxx or Homegoods. I have found some of my favorite pieces at stores like these- mostly designer, but that cost half the price. So I went with her today to return a few unwanted Christmas presents, and I couldn't help but to wander over to the designer section of the store.

I am so excited about my finds; I got a Marc Jacobs plaid "sweater blazer" for $44 down from $328, and a Vince sweater for $39 down from $325 (took a few markdowns, but who cares!)!!!! Tell me that's not insane?

If you have a good eye, I highly recommend checking out these stores- I promise you will be pleasantly surprised!

Style Icon: Emily Thorn

My all-time favorite TV show Revenge came back on today, after a few weeks of pure torture without it. If you are looking for a new show all about romance and drama, I highly recommend it (Sunday nights!). I'm not typically one to follow TV shows, but I adore Revenge and Modern Family so I limit myself to those two.

Not only do I love the plot, but I also drool over the wardrobe of the main character, Emily Thorn (played by Emily VanCamp). She is always beautifully put together- the combination of her hair, makeup, ensemble and attitude make for one strong, fabulous woman.

I had a difficult time finding pictures of her outfits I love most, but here are a few of my favorites!

The fabric coming off of her hips reminds me of peplum, such a cool idea

I love the detail of the collar along with the long necklace

The resemblance of lingerie in her top is so elegant

I love the combination of her hair and the hi-lo dress with skinny straps

Red is definitely one of her best colors

Your turn: Who are your TV actress style icons? Do you have any shows you can't live without?

New Year's Resolutions

So it took me a few days to finalize my list, but I have narrowed it down to these few goals for 2013.

Drink more water. I learned that you should drink 1 ounce of water for every pound you way. So, if you weigh 120 pounds, you should be drinking 120 ounces, or 15 cups of water a day (I'll be starting with 8 and working my way up!)

Exercise at least 3 days a week. In high school, I was an exercise fanatic- I played on a team for each of the 3 seasons, but once I stepped foot on campus I didn't go nearly as often. After my freshman year I felt unhealthy, so I went vegan (if you want to see what it's like to be a vegan, check out my vegan blog!)- this lasted about a year and a half. So for 2013, I want to take better care of myself; eat right, drink water, exercise. Baby steps!

Read a book. Any good suggestions? I've been looking for something else to do aside from watching TV or surfing the web when I'm bored.

Be more cultured. I've been living in Dallas for almost 3 years and I feel like I know nothing about it. It's time a visit a few museums and eat at some traditional Texan restaurants! Other than getting to know where I spend the most time, I want to speak more french, watch french movies and maybe even read a french book! I loved my french classes and my trip to France, and I want to bring the culture back into my life.

And last, but certainly not least, keep blogging!

New Look

For years, all I have done is straighten my hair on a daily basis. It's naturally wavy and frizzy, and I hate it. I insist on straightening it until it is pin straight- but now I am moving on! Instead, I straighten it slightly so there is still volume but it doesn't look as frizzy.

When I go out, I use these curlers because they give me just the amount of wave I want, while changing up my everyday look. Typically I just use four because my hair isn't very thick and I use them more for a wave than complete curls. After, I use this hairspray- it smells amazing and holds the waves in place. This combination gives the same affect as if I got a blowout at a salon!
Here is a helpful tutorial to help if you haven't used these!

Needing it Now

Even though I got all that I wanted for Christmas, it is inevitable that new things are going to pop up.

(unfortunately, way over my budget)

My friend spent her summer traveling around Thailand and brought me a beautiful elephant figurine and bowl. Ever since, I have become obsessed with anything elephant!

Does anyone know of a good place to get monogrammed luggage tags?? I haven't found one I love yet.
